緩やかにカーブを描く有機的なフォルム、思わず触れたくなるようなしっとりとした手触り、繊細なニュアンスカラー……。五感に訴えかける「MELIDES」のデザインを手掛けるのは、世界中で活躍するベルギーの建築家、Vincent Van Duysenです。 彼は自然でシンプルなデザインを直感的に思い描き、内側にカーブするラインや表面の繊細なテクスチャーを完璧なものにするため、DOMANIの職人と一体になりながら試行錯誤を繰り返しました。繊細でありながらも堅牢で、どこかエレガントなプランターは、 さまざまな空間になじみながら、存在感を放ちます。
Domani’s new handmade Melides collection comprises a series of sizeable indoor and outdoor planters featuring soft organic shapes, tactile textures and subtle colour tones. It marries Van Duysen’s sensorial and sensual expression with the handmade craftsmanship that Domani is known for. “Delicate yet robust, traditional yet contemporary, the Melides collection of planters comes from an initial idea of a simple shape that emerged in my mind,” says Van Duysen. He continues: “The shape curves gently, creating a form that bears reference to nature. Its exterior, treated as if it were a skin, is given an eroded, textured character.”

日常を過ごす空間や生活の質に強いこだわりを持ち、暮らしそのものを独自の世界観でデザインするベルギーの建築家。建築だけでなく内装や家具、照明、カーテン、さらにはそこに置かれるさまざまな小物までトータルで手掛け、人の心に響く心地良い空間を生み出します。1962年に同国北部のロケレンに生まれ、ゲントのサンルカス建築大学で学位を取得。1989年にアントワープに自身のスタジオを開設し、今では世界中の多くのメーカーと協働して建築や家具、プロダクトを提案しています。素材の質感やボリューム感、色彩などを細部にわたるまで探求し、時代を超越して愛されるモダンな作品をつくり出すスタイルは、DOMANIと通じ合うものがあります。
Regardless of the type of project – a product design, a residential interior or a large-scale architectural project – Belgian designer Vincent Van Duysen’s approach is the same: he explores the art of living and emphasises quality of life, bringing forth work that resonates with people and makes them feel at ease. His work is pure, sensorial and serene, and it adheres to a design philosophy that removes all excess to zoom in on the core. It is contemporary and timeless with a wink to the past. Born in the Belgian town of Lokeren, Van Duysen earned a degree from the Sint-Lucas School of Architecture in Ghent. He has won multiple awards, including Belgian Designer of the Year in 2016 and the Henry van de Velde Lifetime Achievement Award in 2019. His first collection with Domani is Melides, introduced in 2022.

「MELIDES」の名は、ポルトガル南部の大西洋に面した自然豊かな街から名付けられました。砂岩のような独特の色や質感が、侵食された海岸をイメージさせます。 サイズは縦横比が異なる4種、カラーは4色のバリエーションがそろいます。

素材とかたちで
物語を語る
DOMANIでは新作コレクションを発表する際、コンセプトに合致する空間でプレゼンテーションを行います。「MELIDES」の舞台となったのは、デンマーク南部の北海沿いに位置する「Wadden Sea Centre（ワッデン・シー・センター）」。氷河期に形成された全長約500kmに及ぶ世界最大の干潟、ワッデン海国立公園の玄関口となり、ワッデン海の自然と歴史を伝える建物です。設計はデンマークの建築家、Dorte Mandrup（ドルテ・マンドラップ）が手掛けたもので、地元の伝統的な農家の建築様式と配置を参考とし、地元で調達した素材を採用。外壁から屋根まですべてをワラ葺きで仕上げて環境になじませながらも、コンテンポラリーな佇まいをかなえています。メランコリックな湿地帯と波打つ砂丘から上昇するように見えるこの建物は、ワッデン海の風景と見事に調和。素材やかたちによって人の心に訴え、物語を語るDorteの手法は、DOMANIが核心として取り入れ続けてきたものと共通し、「MELIDES」でもその真髄が感じられることでしょう。
Seemingly ascending from the melancholic marshlands and soft billowy dunes of the Wadden Sea National Park, a 500-kilometrelong Danish coastal area formed by the ice age some 12,000 years ago, is a building so intertwined with the landscape that it is hard to imagine one without the other. The Wadden Sea Centre, the gateway for visitors wishing to explore the UNESCO World Heritage site that is the Wadden Sea National Park, is a prime example of Danish architect Dorte Mandrup’s ability to root her works in the local surroundings and natural sceneries while adding a profoundly artistic, forwardlooking element to them. The asymmetrical thatched roofs and facades, built using local building traditions, draw upon the layout of traditional four-winged farmhouses and utilise locally sourced construction materials. The line that forms the top of the roof lies in perfect parallel with the North Sea’s infinite horizon. Using materiality and form to tell a story, convey a feeling and create awareness, as Mandrup so cleverly does through the Wadden Sea Centre, is a practice that Domani’s artists have also employed in their works for nearly 30 years. It remains at the heart of what we stand for.
